Judging from the publications profile of the Directors, ABATOM Associates should soon begin to record an increasing number of titles of published books and monographs bearing its imprint. To be sure, the first two books due to be published shortly and under specifically ABATOM imprimatur are by its Directors (for details, see Gallery, under the sub-section on Forthcoming Books).
Also, ABATOM has a Book Publication Programme aimed at encouraging scholars and researchers in their mid-careers to publish their books under a mutually beneficial, cost-sharing arrangement with the Publishers, but without compromising on the all-important scholarly standards of merit and quality. The Programme is a response particularly to the demands being continually made on mid-career scholars and researchers within the university system who are under pressure to produce more and more publications for purposes of promotion and advancement as part of the conditions of the academic career (reference is to the so-called publish-or-perish syndrome), and the need for an intervention measure of the kind here planned for relieving the affected individuals of such pressures. For details, see ABATOM Book Publication Programme for Scholars and Researchers in Their Mid-Careers
In addition to Books, Monographs, and perhaps Commissioned Studies and Technical Reports (where their dissemination is permitted), ABATOM's other planned publications include Occasional Papers (the outcome of Distinguished Lectures series planned as part of ABATOM programmes of research and publishing), Research Briefings, Information Bulletins (or Fact Sheets) reporting the organisation's activities or events whether about the immediate past, on-going, or forthcoming, and of course the Brochure about the think tank. The last three can now be found as a brochure downloadable on our website www.abatom.com/publications.
The Directors track record of quality books and monographs previously published and now carried over into their new role should help underscore the significance attached to this particular function of ABATOM Associates, while also providing indicator about future performance in the area.
The ABATOM Monographs series was initiated with the publication of Police Powers and Federal Systems: Nigerian Case in Comparative Perspective as its maiden edition. The latter monograph arose from the distinguished public lecture that Professor J. ‘Bayo Adekanye was invited to give as the Fourth Matriculation Lecture at Achievers University, Owo, Ondo State, Nigeria, Thursday February 10, 2011. Drawing insights from both Theory and Comparative experience of countries regarding the subject area, the study addresses one of Nigeria’s internal security issues of long-standing interest or concern to the informed public: namely, that about policing Nigeria’s demographically large, territorially sprawling, and ethnically and culturally diverse and complex federation, and the appropriate constitutional framework(s) for dealing with this. More titles of published monographs bearing the ABATOM imprint are expected to be added to the series soon.
ABATOM Books is a newly created publication arm of ABATOM Associates. Under its imprimatur are to be published all the forthcoming and other subsequent books of ABATOM Associates. These include whatever manuscripts may have been sourced for and accepted for publication under the ABATOM Book Publication Programme for Scholars and Researchers in their Mid-Careers. The latter was launched a few years back, but is yet to achieve intended results. The decision was taken by the Board to pursue the programme with more vigour.
There are Five (5) books currently scheduled to be published by ABATOM Books before the end of 2017 or in the first quarter of 2018. Though at varying stages of completion; each of these forthcoming books has already had International Standard Book Number (ISBN) obtained and assigned to it. The titles, authors, and ISBNs of these books are as follows:
The maiden text to come from the publication arm of ABATOM Associates is The Comparative Method and Civil-Military Relations. Already completed, copy-edited, and formatted, the book is awaiting production by the Ibadan University Printery, and should appear by November 2017. More details about the book, including the summary, and key Concepts informing the books are supplied below.
