Exactly a month and half later, the Department of Political Science and Public Administration, Babcock University, Ilishan-Remo, Ogun State, had a Special Edition of the Distinguished Personality Lecture Series organized and held in honour of Emeritus Professor J. ‘Bayo Adekanye, FSSAN. October 15, 2014. As it turned out the event, apart from being meant for celebrating Professor ‘Bayo Adekanye’s recent elevation to the distinguished rank of Emeritus Professor of Political Science at University of Ibadan, also marked the end of his full-time contract engagement at Babcock University where both Emeritus Professor Adekanye and his wife had been employed since January 2010. The Guest Lecturer for the occasion was Professor Eghosa E. Osaghae, Vice-Chancellor of Igbinedion University, Okada, Edo State, and the title of his lecture was on “Political Scientists and Governance in Nigeria”. It was Babcock University-wide affair, and attracted the presence of the University President/Vice-Chancellor Professor J. A. Kayode Makinde (who presided as Chairman), along with his deputy the Vice-President/Deputy Vice-Chancellor Professor Iheanyichukwu Okoro, the University Pastor Dr. Tunde Ojewole, and Director of External Relations/Protocol & Logistics Mr. Isaac Osuntade. A number of Emeritus Professor Adekanye’s long-time professional associates such as Professors Adele L. Jinadu, Jibrin Ibrahim, and Kunle Amuwo (now late), colleagues from various universities including University of Ibadan and Babcock University, friends, present and former students, and other acquaintances attended the event, and many of these gave tributes. So of course did the celebrant’s wife Professor Tomilayo Adekanye and their children Ayomide Adepeju and Dr. J. ‘Bayo Adekanye, Jnr.
