Being the two Emeriti Professors of Political Science, and the first of such a pair to be elevated in the same Department and at one go, to that meritorious status in the history of the University, and indeed in Nigeria as a whole. The venue was at the Faculty of Law Large Lecture Theatre, University of Ibadan. The Guest Lecturer was the prolific scholar and policy analyst Dr. Tunji Olaopa , but himself an alumnus of the Department and therefore one of the former students of the two honourees, but speaking then as Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Communication Technology based in Abuja. The title of the Lecture was on “The Legitimacy of Political Science as a Discipline in Nigeria”, to be found almost instantaneously serialized in a number of the country’s daily newspapers (Among them The Guardian July 3, 2015). The Guests present at event included Dean of Faculty of the Social Sciences (Chairman of Occasion), Emeritus Professor Ademola Oyejide and Professor Festus Egwakhide both from the Department of Economics, retired Professor Alex Gboyega, Visiting Professor from the Brooklyn College of City University of New York (CUNY) and a former student Professor Mojubaolu Olufunke Okome, Professor Adigun Agbaje and many other staff members and students of the Department under the headship of Professor O. B. C. Nwolise, a delegation of professional colleagues from Babcock led by Dr. Jumoke Yacob-Haliso, and of course a number of the Guest Lecturer’s friends and acquaintances who accompanied him to the event.
